Fourth Trimester
The ‘fourth trimester,’ or the first three months after your baby is born, is an incredible, intense, fleeting, difficult, and important time. It is not easy, no matter what type of birth experience you’ve had. You’re figuring it all out. Be patient with yourself.
During pregnancy we spent so much time preparing for the birth and discovering how to take care of a newborn that we missed preparing for the whole ‘after’ part. If we could go back, we’d dedicate a lot more time educating ourselves about how to take care of ourselves in this important stage.
Become more knowledgeable about what life might look like in the early days. We’ve included info about practitioners who can help support you (check out our practitioner guides to find yours) and recommended reading, podcasts, interviews, and stories by parents who’ve been through it and the experts they’ve relied on. One of the best pieces of advice we got was to take it day by day in the beginning - and know that there are resources you can access if and when you need them.
