I love being a witness for patients as they grow their families. I’ve always been a “helper” and being able to share what I know to give people agency, helping them advocate for their own health is a very satisfying feeling.
On a deeper level, I believe that the way we parent our babies shapes them and, in turn, shapes the future world. Can you imagine what the world would be like if more people were well-loved, emotionally nourished, self aware, and who deeply trusted themselves and their worth?
I love sharing space and time with my patients, developing trust, and witnessing their transformations via that embodied liminal place that acupuncture provides — it restores balance to the mind, body, and spirit.
I love getting to work virtually and in-home with patients because it allows me the opportunity to work with people in the environment that they spend most of their time and problem solve at the course. I also get to meet people’s pets!
I invite birthgivers into a space that is validating, nurturing, exploratory, and meaningful. A space where they are invited to share their truths in an unfiltered way. Where they can be unapologetically vulnerable and free. It's a space that for many is the first time they have truly been seen.
I do this work because it is important for me to acknowledge and remember the forgotten. This means shining light on the needs of marginalized communities, reminding people of their wonderful qualities and strengths, and staying connected to traditions that are important to my clients.
I like to think of my work with families as a partnership. I am there to support, to offer knowledge and resources, but also to learn from the family and to mirror the strengths that I see back into the birth space.
My hands-on approach is helpful to address any restrictions of tissue and create better mobility of the organs so they can function more effectively. This type of work can be supported for those who are trying to conceive naturally or to help those who are preparing for IVF or IUI to increase their success rate of implantation.
Education and empowerment. I love empowering my patients to make educated decisions concerning their health and fertility. For my fertility patients, knowledge and understanding of the female and male reproduction process is essential in identifying potential problems, knowing how to optimize and preserve fertility, and knowing when to seek ART (assisted reproductive technology).
Emotions are energy and they get stuck in our physical body, and are most often the cause of our health issues. It is vital to uncover and heal these emotional pains to release how it is manifesting in the body. In the struggle of becoming a mother, there are so many emotions that come up. Most of these emotions are past wounds that have not been resolved and are now being amplified. Working through these emotions is challenging, however it provides grace and ease to the journey towards motherhood.
My sessions are fun, light hearted, informative, intuitive and intend to provide a sense of connection to you and your body to empower you with tools to manage and/or overcome your symptoms.
Whether you are experiencing conflict or transition in relationships or career, are relocating, coping with the illness or death of a loved one, processing pregnancy loss and abortion, or struggling to navigate a mental health diagnosis, I look forward to meeting you where you are at. A core focus of my practice includes issues of identity and self-worth.
When we are provided a safe present space in which to feel our pain (physical and emotional) healing happens. The emotions and physical process moves through us rather than getting stuck.
I always strive to meet my clients exactly where they are; focusing on their background with exercise, any past or current injuries, and their specific goals. Everyone's experience with exercise is very different and it is my job to ensure they are training as optimally as possible to reach their goals.
As a seasoned practitioner, I explain to clients that Chinese medicine is a complete medical system as well as a healing art. While acupuncture alone may convince a client to make an appointment, in my work, I insist that there is considerably more this medicine (and our time together) can offer.
It’s incredible to see the progress the body is capable of making, and amazing to witness the dedication of the individuals that I work with. I love being able to be a part of their journey.
I don’t believe anyone’s postpartum journey should look the same. When working with someone to return to exercise safely, we take into account previous exercise regimes, exercise during pregnancy, their labor and delivery experience, and their current postpartum recovery status. We work together to create a plan to safely achieve each individual’s specific goals.
I aim to bring balance and ease during these unique periods of life when the body is rapidly changing and under a new set of demands. Because many of the expectant and new mothers I work with have little or no experience with chiropractic, I strive to be thorough with providing education on their nervous system, the changes that their body is going through, what to expect during the adjustment, and lifestyle recommendations.
I believe that birth is a rite of passage that has the power to transform even in the most challenging of circumstances. It is an opportunity to let go, listen, and receive. As a Doula, my intention is to inform and empower birthing people to trust their inner knowing as they step into their new roles as mother/father, provider/parent, giving them the opportunity to move as gracefully through this transition as possible.
My mission is to guide you into deep trust with yourself. I will help you clear the path and support you into skillful practices rooted in embodied self-trust as you lead yourself into the next chapter of life. Together, we will turn deep transitions into clarifying life experiences, cultivating awakening all along the way.
I've always had a fascination and curiosity around birth and reproductive health. Why don't we learn more about our bodies growing up? The more I learned the more my curiosity peaked as well as the desire to share all the information I could get my hands on with friends.
My approach is client centered whole person care. That means I want to know all about you, your successes and challenges and find ways to optimize your health. You direct your recommendations and you know your body best.
Stephanie Schiavenato is one of the most experienced doulas in New York City. She is also an anthropologist whose research focuses on how families cope with pregnancy loss and a documentary filmmaker.
I'm constantly inspired by the strength my patients exhibit day after day to continue working on themselves, challenging their familiar patterns, improving their mindset, accepting their circumstances even when they did not choose them.
Love yourself first and always. We are simple characteristics of people we surround ourselves with. Be kind, compassionate and put into the universe better than you expect to come back to you.
Birth to parenthood is a human rite of passage. When we birth our families, we are given the opportunity to remember our inherent power and knowing. Not because we should birth or BE 'a certain' way, but rather because birth is a primal invitation to connect to your power, no matter the 'how'. This is medicine for Humankind.
We are passionate about this work and are constantly thinking about ways to make each family’s experience better. How can we help make their day go a little smoother? What are the little challenges that no one else is asking about or noticing and how can we improve them? How can we help them find their rhythm? How can we go the extra mile?
